THE HOUSE OF RESONANCE

Sound is another
topography of the mountain.

On the southern slopes of the Himalaya, sound has never been only sound. It is the morning liturgy of a monastery, the ringing of a hammer in a coppersmith's shop, the answer the valley gives when wind passes through prayer flags.

NADA HIMALAYA began in Patan's old town. Together with local coppersmith families and sound teachers, we turn this way of hearing into objects and courses you can bring home.

THE SIGNATURE COLLECTION

Listen first,then take it home.

Every bowl sounds slightly different. For the signature collection we measure the fundamental, record the resonance, and give each bowl its own number.

A ONE-MINUTE RITUAL

Tonight, let the body
fall asleep first.

No cushion needed, no ceremony needed. Just one minute — move your attention away from the screen and give it to a bowl's resonance.

01

Hear the first tone. Let your shoulders drop. There is nothing to do.

02

Hear the second tone. Notice where the sound settles in your body.

03

Hear the third tone. Let the silence last a little longer than the sound.

Headphones recommended · live-synthesised overtones

NADA SCHOOL · KATHMANDU

Learning sound
is learning to listen to yourself.

We do not teach bowls as a set of mystical formulas. From holding the mallet, hearing overtones and reading a room's acoustics, to the ethics of private sessions — learn to listen first, then decide whether to strike.

OBJECTS FOR STILLNESS

For your sitting corner,
an object with aplace it comes from.

Singing bowls, malas, incense and handwoven textiles. They do not urge you to practise; they simply stay quietly there, waiting for you to sit down.

“Sound does not take responsibility for healing anyone. It only reminds you:you are still here.”

WHY HIMALAYA

Not every copper bowl
comes from the Himalaya.

We work only with independent workshops in Patan, Bhaktapur and Pokhara. Materials, process and the names of the artisans can all be traced.

01 / MATERIAL

Ancient seven-metal alloy

Copper, tin, iron, silver, gold, zinc and nickel, smelted in the proportions passed down by Patan's artisans — not industrial brass.

02 / CRAFT

Twelve stages of hand hammering

Tens of thousands of strikes rearrange the stress inside the metal — and give every bowl its own overtones.

03 / PROOF

One bowl · one certificate · one number

Each bowl comes with its fundamental, resonance, dimensions, the artisan's signature and an individual number — like an identity card for a sound.

04 / ETHICS

Long-term work with artisans

Fair wages paid per piece, never framed as a charity narrative to bargain prices down. This is how a craft is passed on to the next artisan.

VOICES FROM THE ROOM

After they listened,
this is what they said.

Practitioners from Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Lisbon. These sounds eventually returned to their own rooms.

FIELD NOTES

Notes from the mountain.

The hammering in the workshop, the mornings at Boudhanath, and some notes about sound. Published from time to time.
